Description of the picture

The Mithridatic Staircase in Kerch is an outstanding architectural monument consisting of 438 steps connecting the port area with the height of the city. The staircase was built in 1833 and named after Mithridates VI, king of Pontus, known for his attempts to create a strong state on the Black Sea coast.
The theme of the work is the urban landscape. Created in a workshop based on sketches. The painting shows the contrast of pompous novelty and the ruined buildings around.
