Portrait of Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin

Description of the picture

The idea to paint a ceremonial portrait of Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin appeared when I was writing a group portrait of Russian cultural figures. That painting called «The Big Stage» depicts Stanway musicians and the winners of the Tchaikovsky Competition. Among them are Maya Plisetskaya and Rodion Shchedrin. When I painted this creative couple in a general portrait, I even then thought that Plisetskaya and Shchedrin deserve a separate ceremonial portrait against the background of the luxurious curtain of the Bolshoi Theater.
