Description of the picture

In this work, I show how Smolensk looked like when viewed from the Zadneprovskoe Posad at the very beginning of the 17th century, when the Polish intervention was still five years away. The construction of the Smolensk fortress has already been completed ( only it remains to finish painting it). It is presented to the viewer in its full mighty beauty (at that time it was the most powerful fortification in Europe). The war's troubles had not yet come to her. We are looking at a prosperous, beautiful Orthodox Russian city where peaceful life flows smoothly.
